Art, especially painting and drawing, is the way I think about things. Putting pigment on paper, the tactile sensation, is my way to review all that I may experience in a day, a moment, a year. What I try to do with the images I paint and draw, is to convey thought. I live in one of the most beautiful places in the world, and every day brings the most amazing images. When I see them, I don't want to capture the image as is, I want to capture the thoughts the world is sharing. Textures, colors, lights, darks, shapes, all present themselves in their glory every day here in Napa. It would be hard to not be an artist in this environment. For the past 15 years I have been illustrating children's books and accepting private commissions. My emphasis has been portraiture and figurative work in oils, watercolors, graphite, and colored pencil, from life as well as from photos. |
